Job Overview

We are currently recruiting a part time Medical Secretary to provide accurate punctual and efficient medical secretarial and administration support Partners GPs and registrars at our busy GP Practice in Ystrad Mynach. This is a permanent role.

Main duties of the job

Oakfield Street Surgery are looking to recruit a Medical Secretaryto join our busy team. The successful candidate will provide administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth running of the practice. The position available up to 24 hours per week, including full days on Thursday and Friday

Previous experience of working within a primary or secondary care setting is desirable, but we encourage applications from candidates who have transferable skills and willingness to undertake suitable training to upskill if required. The post is subject to a DRB check

You must be organised, self-motivated and forward thinking, with excellent communication skills. It is important that the candidate is confident, empathetic towards patients contacting the practice and can remain calm under pressure whilst multi-tasking. You will also be required to deal with queries and GP requests. The candidate must be enthusiastic and computer literate. Knowledge of medical terminology would also be an advantage.

About us

We are an innovative and growing surgery based in Ystrad Mynach, which lies in Caerphilly County Borough. We have a long history of successfully training GP registrars and started teaching medical students again last year.

The surgery is very busy and has approximately 13,500 patients. We cover Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed, Cefn Hengoed, Penpedairheol and Maesycwmmer. We also have some remaining patients in Nelson, Gelligaer and Tir-y-birth. This population is forged from ex-mining communities and there are some pockets of significant deprivation in our area.

We have 6 partners, 4 salaried GP's, an advanced Nurse Practitioner, 3 practice nurses and 2 pharmacists GPs supported by a management team.

Ystrad Mynach is a beautiful village. We are close to the local bus and train stations. There a number of small businesses that offer a variety of products and services, local cafes, takeaways, as well as a Spar; Premier, Lidl and Tesco.

Efficient fast and accurate processing and prioritising of referral letters from both NHS eReferrals and the private sector using a digital dictation system.

Effectively operate the ereferrals computer system.

To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls to facilitate timely and appropriate communication

Liaise with professionals staff patients and other organisations to assist with the resolution and administration of queries.

Franking post and taking to the Post Office daily.

To ensure adherence to Practice policies and procedures including quality and diversity information governance H&S and confidentiality.

To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.

Any other duties as required.
