Job summary

We are a hard working team striving to provide the best possible care for our patients.

We have full time hours but we are flexible and happy to recruit several nurses to cover on a part time basis.

We work closely together to deliver different aspects of patient care and we are looking for a nurse or nurses to fit into our team.

Ideally applicants will already have relevant skills and experience however for the right individual we will provide the training required.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in supporting our GP's and ACP by providing essential care and monitoring through regular reviews and recalls.

You will need to have current NMC registration and the following skills as a minimum:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Wound care
  • BP monitoring

The following skills and experience would be an advantage:

  • Cytology
  • Chronic wound care management
  • Immunisations and vaccinations (both children and adults)
  • Chronic disease management (Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension etc.)
  • Knowledge of SystmOne

About us

We are a caring, helpful, semi-rural practice in the centre of Ripon with 7450 patients from a wide range of socio-economic groups. You will be joining a friendly team of 6 GPs, an Advanced Care Practitioner, 2 nurses, a HCA and supportive Reception and Admin teams. We are also one of the four practices that make up the Ripon & Masham Primary Care Network and you may be required to work across the network at times.

JOB TITLE: Practice Nurse

REPORTS TO: Practice Manager/Senior Practice Nurse

Job Summary:

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.

Job Responsibilities:

Professional:

  • Managing patients on the Chronic Disease registers e.g. Asthma, Diabetes, COPD, Heart Disease and Kidney Disease.
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Provide patients with lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake, exercise, and facilitating change.
  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients including dealing with minor injuries.
  • Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines via Systmone.
  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
  • Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
  • Monitor patients on Amber Drugs.
  • Carry out Medication reviews, which will include patients on H.R.T or using Contraception.
  • Spirometry.
  • Provide Doppler Assessments.
  • Chaperone GPs at patients request.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines.

  • Take ECGs
  • Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
