Glenpark Medical
Centre provides primary care services to the people of
Dunston and the surrounding areas. We are looking for a flexible, dedicated and enthusiastic GP to join our well established and friendly practice team for anywhere between 4 and 9 sessions per week. It is important to us to find the right person and someone
who shares our ethos and approach.
We plan, deliver and commission a wide range of healthcare and treatment to meet the health
needs of local people and we are looking to recruit people who can help us
deliver a first-class service to our patients.
The successful
applicant will join our current GP team of five partners and four salaried
GPs, where mutual support and work/home life balance are valued. We have a
committed practice team, including a prescribing nurse practitioner and 3
multi-skilled practice nurses, who work alongside our HCAs .
Glenpark is situated
very near to both Central Newcastle and the Metrocentre. Beautiful
Northumberland and the local coastal area are a short drive away and there are
good transport links to the A1 and Newcastle Airport.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
In addition to this the GP will work alongside the partners to ensure the ongoing development of the practice and all issues relating to this.

We are a successful, high achieving GMS practice with a growing list size, currently around 9000 and moved into a new purpose built building in February 2019. We have a document management system in place which includes pharmacists to minimise administrative workload for GPs. Our first priority is to provide high quality patient centred care, while personal development is encouraged, and there are opportunities to be involved in external work.
Our extended PCN team also includes a frailty nurse, physiotherapist, mental health practitioner and counsellors, care navigator and social prescribing link workers along with access to a pharmacist each day.
This post involves contact with a vulnerable client group therefore it has been designated as requiring an ENHANCED disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).

Clinical Responsibilities
* In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including face to face consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
*Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
*Assessing the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
*Screening patient for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
*In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
*Providing counselling and health education.
*Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
*Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
*Collecting data for audit purposes.
*Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).
*Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
*Supervising GP registrars and F2doctors.
*Overseeing the practice if the need arises.
*In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
*Be responsible for dealing with correspondence relating to their patients including reports for insurance, Department of Work & pensions etc. The post holder will also share responsibility for dealing with results and clinical post in the absence of colleagues.
* Will be available to work flexibly to meet business needs.

*Awareness and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guideline, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health & safety.
*A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence based best practice.
