Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining
the highest clinical standards at all times and in accordance with
accepted good medical practice, relevant National and local clinical
guidelines and various clinical protocols of the practice.
- Transmission
of relevant clinical information of patients to other medical and
nursing staff both within and external, regarding patients under care of
those referred to other places for further treatment of follow-up.
- Encourage and support the GP provision of the services to
promote the medical and clinical services delivery in a timely manner as
per CCG
- Keep up to date with advances in medicine and practices.
- Undertake annual appraisal and revalidation. Attend practice
education meetings, business meetings, PHCT meetings.
- Undertake home visits, and care of practice patients in nursing
homes or residential homes.
- Promote the application of standards, protocols and codes of
practice as set by Royal College of General Practitioners, General
Medical Council, all other Royal
Colleges and
Councils applicable to the staff within the practice, Department of
Health, Primary Care Trusts and all other regulatory and standard
setting organisations
- Assist in the delivery of the service and promotion of policies
made by the practice
- Contribute to the development of ideas, strategies and policies
which will promote efficiency and well-being of the service delivery by
attending practice business meetings
- Ensure patient notes are fit for purpose, information entered on
EMIS Web and filed in accordance with appropriate protocol
- Good prescribing and medicines management.
- NICE guidance and DH directives
- Good Prescribing Practice as defined
by British National Formulary (BNF) guidance from Royal Pharmaceutical
Society of Great Britain on the safe and secure handling of medicines
- Controlled Drugs legislation
- Shared protocols agreed between the
PCT and other NHS providers
- Locally specified Patient Group
Directions
- Have in place suitable guidance to ensure that when referrals made
for patients to see other medical service providers are kept within
local guidelines, adequate information is given to the personnel to whom
the patient has been referred for proper assessment to be made
- Be supportive of any complaints policy and procedure to ensure
proper investigation and appropriate follow-up action in the event of a
complaint being made against any aspect of the service provided or any
personal provider of the service
- Maintain confidentiality in line with professional standards

Safeguarding
Children and Adults
The
organisation has a zero tolerance approach to the abuse of children, young
people and vulnerable adults. All employees are required to promote and
safeguard the welfare of children and young people and comply with the Local
Safeguarding Children Board Procedures and the Children Act (1989, 2004). In
accordance with the CCG and Local Safeguarding Adult Board policy all staff
must ensure the health and wellbeing of vulnerable adults is appropriately
safeguarded.
All
staff are required to attend training appropriate to their role in
safeguarding children and adults, which includes understanding and
recognising the signs of abuse and knowing how to raise concerns when those
signs of abuse are noticed in a person.
Confidentiality:
Working within primary care you may gain knowledge of confidential
matters which may include personal and medical information about patients and
staff. Such information must be considered strictly confidential and must not
be discussed or disclosed. Failure to observe this confidentiality could lead
to disciplinary action being taken against you. 71
Codes of Conduct and Accountability:
You
are expected to comply with relevant CCG/Practice codes of conduct and
accountability.
Health
and Safety:
In
accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other
supplementary legislation, you are required to take reasonable care to avoid
injury during the course of work and co-operate with CCG/Practice and others
in meeting statutory regulations. You are also required to attend statutory
training as required to fulfil your duties.
To
comply with safety instructions and CCG/Practice policies and procedures. To
use in a proper safe manner the equipment and facilities provided.
To
refrain from willful misuse of, or interference with, anything provided in
the interest of health and safety and any action, which might endanger
yourself and others.
To
report as soon as practical any hazards and defects to your senior manager.
To
report as soon as practical accidents and untoward incidents and to ensure
that accident forms are completed.
