Job summary
At Moulton Surgery the aim of the Partners and staff is to preserve the best elements of a traditional style of personal, friendly, accessible family medical practice based on team work, whilst practicing evidence based medicine within an environment that encourages innovation. The practice provides a comprehensive range of primary health care services to its patients.
In addition to residents of the village of Moulton and the surrounding villages, the practice provides primarily health care services to students at the University of Northampton and has a branch surgery at the University. This makes the overall practice demographic quite different to the average Northamptonshire general practice.
Main duties of the job
We
are looking for a highly motivated, flexible candidate who can who can work
competently and under pressure within a busy working environment. To have good
communication skills and work well as a team is also essential.
Successful
applicants with experience of working in primary care.
You
should have the ability to use your own initiative but also be team orientated
and have a flexible approach to work. You will need good time management skills,
the ability to organise and prioritise work along with an understanding of, and
commitment to, patient confidentiality.
The
post holder will be qualified in the delivery of nursing care to patients in
the practice population including treatment room duties, coil/implants, screening, health
education services and advice, having direct clinical involvement and clinical
knowledge in areas such as Asthma, Diabetes and COPD. The post-holder will work
with reference to Practice agreed protocols and guidelines and Patient Group
Directions where available.
A
prescribing qualification is not essential, but would be advantageous.
Additionally
the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to undertake any
further training required to ensure appropriate role development
This is a
part time post, ideally we are looking for 4 days per week.
Flexibility
to cover additional hours during busy periods or when colleagues are on leave
is essential.

- Responsible for providing and delivering primary health care interventions and care effectively and efficiently
- Working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team and other healthcare professionals to promote integrated pathways of care to meet patient needs.
- Effective communication with patients, carers and all members of the MDT
- Effective prioritisation and completion of daily work in line with clinical / patient need and practice priorities
- Maintenance of accurate and legible patient records in line with professional and organisational requirements this includes contemporary paper records and electronic patient record system

Basic wound care/ulcer care
- Removal of sutures
- NHS Health Checks
- Urinalysis
- ECGs
- Peak flow readings
- Venepuncture
- Blood pressure measurements
- ABPMs (organisation of fitting/downloading results)
- Ear syringing
- Routine immunisations (including childhood, travel)
- Venepuncture when required
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil/implant fittings or leading the coil/implant clinic independently
- Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Reviews of Long term Conditions as per training ( e.g. Asthma, Diabetes ,COPD)
