Lead Clinical Pharmacist

Job summary

Full-time or part-time role available (minimum 25 hours per week).

Over the last six years, our Clinical Pharmacy team have become a fundamental part of the Mereside Medical Group Practices - highly valued and appreciated by our GPs, Practice teams, and patients thanks to a track record of making a genuine difference to patient outcomes and GP workloads.

The team comprises four Clinical Pharmacists and three Pharmacy Technicians, working across the three GP Practices of Mereside Medical Group.

We are looking for a Clinical Pharmacist or Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner who is keen to offer line-management and leadership to the seven members of our Pharmacy Team 25% of the week, and work as a Clinical Pharmacist for 75% of the week.

The post-holder will be part of the wider Mereside Management team and would suit a someone wanting to develop into a management and leadership role within a supportive and thriving Practice Group.

The post-holder will need to:

  • Be a qualified Clinical Pharmacist or Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner.
  • Be currently registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Have completed the PCPEP (CPPE) pathway.
  • Hold an Independent Prescribing qualification.
  • Enthusiastic about managing and developing the Clinical Pharmacy Team.
  • Able to demonstrate skill managing others.
  • Able to travel easily in the community.

Main duties of the job

Management and Leadership duties (25% of the role).

Line-management responsibility for the Mereside Group Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, including coordinating absences; offering supervision; ensuring staff are well-trained; ensuring the team are working safely; leading on annual appraisals.

Working closely with the Mereside Group Operations teamincluding offering clinical expertise and contributing to service development; taking responsibility for overall Pharmacy team performance;building effective working relationships with the Mereside Medications teams, collaboration with the Group Head of Clinical Operations to ensure continuity of resourcing across all three sites, reporting on performance; acting as hiring manager for all Pharmacist and Tech roles; supporting risk-stratification work and identification of high-risk patient cohorts; supporting quality improvement and clinical audit.

Clinical Pharmacy duties (75% of the role).

Offering patient-facing clinical services and expertise in clinical medicines management, including offering structured medication reviews for high-risk patients, including people living in care homes, people who have long-term conditions, and people who take multiple medications; supporting medication management on transfer of care; managing prescriptions; offering patient-facing clinics; support public health campaigns including vaccination programmes; work with the Practice teams to ensure compliance with relevant CQC standards.
