Main duties of the job
As a Practice Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Your responsibilities will include:

Providing routine nursing care and chronic disease management (e.g. asthma, diabetes, hypertension)

Running immunisation and vaccination clinics (including childhood and travel vaccines)

Conducting cervical smear tests and sexual health screening

Assisting with wound care, dressings, and removal of sutures

Supporting health promotion and lifestyle advice

Working closely with GPs and the wider clinical team to ensure coordinated, holistic care

Job Summary
The Practice Nurse is a vital member of the primary care team, delivering high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients across a wide range of clinical areas. This includes health promotion, disease prevention, screening, and the management of long-term conditions. The role involves working autonomously and collaboratively as part of a supportive and dynamic clinical team.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care

Conduct chronic disease management clinics (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension)

Provide routine and travel immunisations, childhood vaccinations, and flu clinics

Undertake cervical cytology screening (smear tests)

Perform wound care, dressings, removal of sutures/clips, and compression therapy

Provide family planning, sexual health advice, and contraception services (if trained)

Support NHS health checks and lifestyle advice for smoking cessation, diet, and physical activity

Conduct blood pressure monitoring, and urinalysis

Administer injections (e.g. B12, Depo-Provera, vaccines)

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using clinical IT systems (e.g. EMIS/SystmOne)

Participate in audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives

Ensure infection control and cold chain protocols are followed

Maintain personal CPD in line with NMC requirements and current clinical guidelines

Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and care pathways
