Job summary
It is the role of the practice nurse to work alongside the practice team to provide a service to the practice population. Patients enquiries must be handled courteously, efficiently and with empathy. Record keeping, adherence to protocols and procedures and the sharing of information within the team should be undertaken efficiently and effectively. It is essential that a strict code of confidentiality is always observed.
It is important that all members of staff are prepared to take on additional duties or relinquish existing duties in order to maintain efficient running of the practice.

- Wound care
- Ear syringing
- Routine Injections
- Teaching inhaler techniques
- Spirometry
- Taking and recording blood pressures
- Measuring and recording blood sugar levels
- Measuring and monitoring INR levels
- Venepuncture
- Provide assistance to GPs performing minor surgery
Main duties of the job
Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice: Chronic Disease ManagementImmunisations including travel, seasonal vaccinations, baby vaccinations.Diet/Smoking/Lifestyle advicePerforming ECGs, Spirometry etc (if required, training provided)Assisting the doctors in minor ops, chaperoningCervical smearsGeneral nursing duties e.g. dressings, ear syringing etcProvision of contraception and Sexual Health advice.Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.Supplies and equipment treatment room and other areas:In participation with the Practice Manager, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care.Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate.Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice.Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.Assist in the formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.Carry out monthly audits relating to role
