Job responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable and compassionate colleague to work five clinical sessions each week, covering a mix of routine appointments, chronic disease management, telephone triage, same-day care and MDT teaching.

We value the role of named GP, particularly for complex, frail or vulnerable patients, and so the post holder will also co-ordinate the care of a portion of the patient list, supported by GP colleagues and the wider team.

Salaried GPs play an important leadership role in the practice, running the triage/same-day care team and developing clinical strategy for core services (for example the provision of planned care for chronic disease).

We are a large and ever-growing teaching practice: you can expect your weekly rota to include opportunities to lead tutorials and offer 1-2-1 teaching to clinical trainees at every level. The successful candidate is likely to have an interest in teaching and an aspiration to become a qualified GP Trainer.

Experience

• Essential
• -CCT as General Practitioner
• -Experience of triage, including assessment of cases over the phone or online. Implement appropriate management plans that prioritise safety and the efficient use of clinical resources.
• -Confident in the delivery of safe, effective routine care in a practice setting and in patients homes.

Desirable

• Desirable
• - Experience providing clinical leadership during triage sessions, offering direction and support to GP and MDT colleagues, trainees and practice assistants.
• -Evidence of responsibility for shaping clinical strategy, for example leading the MDT in our approach to one area of chronic disease.
• - Experience of managing a patient list as the Named GP.
• - Leading 1-2-1 and group tutorials for GP trainees and MDT colleges (this currently includes pharmacists, social prescribers, nurses, HCAs and ambulance staff)

Clinical Governance Management and IT

Essential

• - Knowledge of and involvement in Clinical Governance issues including incident reporting
• - Proficiency with IT systems, good keyboard skills

Desirable

• - Experience in leading complaint and significant incident investigations
• - Familiarity with EMIS and Docman clinical IT systems

Personal Qualities

• -Practice with kindness and compassion
• - Be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English, build rapport, have excellent interpersonal skills, show empathy and understanding
• - Take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority

• - Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services

Qualifications

Essential

• -Full UK GMC Registration and a Licence to Practise
• -On the GMC GP Register

Desirable

• -Qualified GP trainer
• -Provider status in one or more life support courses (ALS, ATLS, APLS, and PALS)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• -Confident delivering safe and evidence-based care to a general practice population.
• -Up-to-date on relevant national guidelines and good medical practice as set out by the GMC.
• -Experienced in advance care planning and end of life care provision.
• -Able to collaborate and work with multidisciplinary teams to manage illness in a community setting.

Desirable

• -Experience in clinical guideline development.
• -UK Driving licence.
