Due to expansion we have a vacancy for a salaried GP working 4-6 sessions per week

We are a well-established forward thinking and friendly training practice who has recently merged with our neighbouring practice Five Towns Surgery which now gives us a practice list size of approximately 14,000 patients.

We are looking for an enthusiastic salaried GP to work 4 - 6 sessions per week and are offering a competitive salary based on experience.

Our clinical software is EMIS.

Main duties of the job

We are part of a well-functioning Primary Care Network of three other practices and have recruited a number of additional practitioners including first contact physiotherapist, clinical pharmacists, social prescribers and care co-ordinators to work across the three practices.

We are a learning practice with regular meetings and GP Team net to improve communication and information sharing. We encourage personal development and innovation. Special interests are welcome and supported within the practice.

We are a well established GP training practice with regular medical student placements from Year 4 and 5 at Keele as well as FY2s, ST2s and ST3s.

Job Title: Salaried General Practitioner

Responsible to: The Partners (clinically)

The Practice Manager (administratively)

Job Summary:

A key member of the team, the Salaried GP will manage a caseload, dealing with a wide range of presenting health care needs in a primary care setting. The post holder will work with clinical colleagues in ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered patients. The post holder will also contribute to planning and decision making as part of the practice team; the job description therefore covers clinical and organisational elements.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Working with a practice patient list of approximately 14,500 patients
  • Duty Doctor one day a week
  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, issuing and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Makes professionally autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred internally within the Practice.
  • Receives patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and makes assessment of their health care needs.
  • Screens patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develops care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols.
  • Provides counselling and health education.
  • Prescribes in accordance with the CCG prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Admits or discharges patients to and from caseload and refers them to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.
  • Supports training within the Practice and gives clinical supervision to training doctors, and ancillary clinical staff.
  • Complies with relevant Practice policy/guidelines, e.g. Child Protection, confidentially issues etc.
  • Is committed to lifelong learning, audit and effectiveness issues to ensure evidence based best practice.

Other Responsibilities within the Practice

Consults with patients in the surgery and at home visits as agreed internally between all partners.

  • Be available for on-call duties to answer patients telephone queries or carry out emergency home visits, or surgery consultations as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting with colleagues.
  • Records clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards;
  • Collects data for audit purposes;
  • Compiles and issues computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);
  • In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Contributes to the strategic management and development of the Practice e.g. in developing and contributing to Practice policies and guidelines.
  • Attendance at training, Practice Meetings and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Meets all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)
  • Takes on all NHS paperwork for own patient list plus a share of that of other GPs when on leave i.e. Results, Letters, Forms and Scanned documents
  • Ensuring full accreditation which will include full and unrestricted registration with the GMC, membership of an appropriate defence body, inclusion on the local performers list and delivery of annual evidence for appraisal or accreditation purposes in keeping with National requirements at any time.

Hours of Work:

Your working hours will be conducted in accordance with an agreed job-plan following clarification of the sessions to be worked. We would expect you to work between 2 - 3 days dependant on the agreed sessional mix, Monday to Friday. You will be expected to be flexible with regards to the agreed schedule of hours stated in the job plan in order to assure business continuity as and when the business need indicates. It is anticipated that this will happen by exception and in such circumstances an agreed minimum notice period of three months will be exercised. There may be a requirement to work longer hours in line with any government changes if weekend working and extended evenings are required.

Leave Entitlement:

Per annum leave entitlement will be 6 weeks annual leave plus 8 Public Holidays and one week study leave and applied pro rata as stated in your contract.
