An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health Care Assistant to be part of our team in Newburn Surgery. The post is full time/part time hours to be discussed at interview.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our busy training practice. We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate and approachable individual who will complement our team. The individual must be a team player, have excellent communication skills, good time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.

We are looking for someone who is willing to undertake training and potentially incorporate General Practice Assistant skills into this role.

Main duties of the job

Role Summary

  • To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
  • The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
  • You will have a degree of autonomy in your clinics within your scope of practice.
  • Yoiu will be encouraged to continuously develop your skills.

About us

We are a friendly family practice and have been looking after our local population for over 90 years.

Our clinical team at Newburn Surgery includes 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GP's, 2 Practice Nurses and an experience HCA.

The practice is managed by a practice manager and a deputy, along with a patient services manager and reception and administration lead.

An experienced team of medical secretaries and receptionist / administers support patient care compassionately and professionally.

We are a medical teaching practice who supports medical students and doctors in training.

We support student nurses in training.

We are a member of the Newcastle Outer West Primary Care Network.

We use SystmOne as our clinical system.

Undertake patient health checks

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Act as a chaperone as required

Undertake venepuncture

Undertake diabetic foot checks

Administer vaccinations such as flu, pneumonia

Carry out ear irrigation under the supervison of the practice nurse

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
