Job summary

This is an exciting new opportunity due to expansion of our current administration team. The post will be full time, 37.5 hours per week, and salary is subject to experience.

Closing date for the advert is Wednesday 29th April, and interviews will take place in person at Bewick Road Surgery on Tuesday 5th and Thursday 7th May.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring accurate and timely clinical coding across the Practice, supporting the quality of patient records and the wider work of the team.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in Primary Care and experience of using clinical coding systems.

They will also:

  • Be able to read and interpret clinical correspondence, discharge summaries, and other patient documentation to extract and code relevant clinical information accurately onto the practice EMIS system
  • Work closely with clinicians to clarify coding queries and ensure records are complete and up to date
  • Contribute to practice audits and QOF/IIF targets where clinical coding is relevant
  • Have a good knowledge of medical terminology
  • Help ensure other staff members are aware and understand the importance of coding correctly
  • Action all incoming emails and mail in a timely manner
  • Input and extract data as required to support practice reports
  • Have experience and thorough knowledge of summarising patient medical records onto EMIS

Bewick Road Surgery is a friendly Practice based in central Gateshead. We are an incredibly busy, fast paced teaching practice with around 8,500 patients. We have a team of GPs, nurse practitioner, nurse, and admin staff who all work together to provide the best possible health care for our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Clinical Coder will be responsible for the clinical coding of relevant information into patients electronic healthcare records on the clinical system, adhering to the standard SNOMED CT codes and relevant organisational policies.

In addition, the post-holder will support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation. Duties can include, but are not limited to, supporting the administration and receptionist teams with patient registration, booking appointments, the processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner and in accordance with current policies.

The post-holder will support staff with the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers.

The post-holder will be an integral part of the general practice team.
