Job summary
Newquay Health entre are seeking a Healthcare Assistant to work alongside our highly skilled multi-disciplinary team that includes Practice Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedics, Clinical Pharmacists & Physiotherapists. We are a busy practice that provides a service to approximately 17,500 patients.
You will have good communication skills, demonstrating empathy and compassion whilst ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times, be able to work under pressure, and work within a large team.
The post holder will provide clinical care as directed by the Lead Nurses. Working under the supervision of the Nursing team, responsibilities will vary.
Main duties of the job
- Providing face-to-face support to patients within our practices
- Carrying out clinical duties such as blood pressure checks, ECGs, phlebotomy, wound care, weight management, and NHS health checks
- B12, shingles, pneumococcal and flu injections
- Supporting the nursing and GP team in chaperoning patients
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health & wellbeing
- Vaccine and cold chain storage monitoring and recording
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date clinical records
- Assisting with infection control and general health promotion
- Contributing to a positive and proactive team culture
- Support with clinical stock control management - clearing and restocking consultation rooms

- Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.
- Undertake phlebotomy (venepuncture).
- Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.
- Measuring and recording:
- blood pressure
- pulse rate and rhythm
- temperature
- height and weight
- body mass index
- peak flow
- Perform ECGs and record results accurately,
- Blood glucose monitoring.
- Provide wound care, dressings, and suture/clip removal (as trained).
- Support long-term condition management by performing routine checks (e.g. diabetes foot checks, spirometry if trained).
- Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.
- Support clinicians in providing minor surgery.
- Administer vaccinations and immunisations (following appropriate training and PGD/PSD protocols).

- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
- Competence in core HCA duties such as phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, etc.

- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A team player who's flexible, reliable and committed to continuous learning
Desirable
- Previous experience in General Practice.
