Job summary
We are looking to expand our Nursing Team at the surgery. We currently have 3 Nurses and 3 Health Care Assistants at the practice and are open to a newly qualified or experienced Phlebotomist to join us to support and be part of our team.
Main duties of the job
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure patients are comfortable, relaxed, and fully consent to the collection of blood samples.
- Collect blood samples in accordance with established protocols and training.
- Store samples in appropriate containers and ensure timely dispatch to designated laboratories.
- Label all samples accurately and legibly to confirm patient identity.
- Verify patient identity against GP/Nurse requests and confirm with the patient when possible.
- Record the collection of blood samples in patient records, following practice procedures.
- Report any anomalies or issues to a senior member of staff.
- Notify the GP/Nurse of any significant patient concerns or observations.
About us
We are a well established GP Practice in Cwmbran of over 35 years. We have a patient population of nearly 16,000 patients over 2 sites.
There are 8 Partners, 3 Salaried GP's and we are a GP Training practice and are currently training 2 trainees and a GP Returner. We also have 2 Physician Associates that support their clinical colleagues.
We have 3 Nurses that specialise in Chronic Disease Care and also Wounds, with 3 Health Care Assistants who support the Nursing Team and have many years of experience.
Along with the Clinical Team, we have our wonderful Receptionists and Administrative Staff who are supported and managed by our Managing Partner, Assistant Practice Manager and Deputy Manager at our other site.

Equipment and Environment Management:
- Check clinical rooms regularly to ensure all equipment and supplies are in date and adequately stocked.
- Maintain and prepare clinical environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care.
- Check and replace sharps bins when full, ensuring they are sealed, labelled, and transferred to clinical waste as required.
Administrative and Support Responsibilities:
- Support orders to maintain adequate phlebotomy supplies to ensure continuous service provision.
- Support the administrative team by handling phlebotomy-related queries.
- Liaise effectively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to support seamless patient care.
- Assist with the collection and collation of data related to health and well-being needs.
Health Promotion:
- Encourage and support patients in improving their health and lifestyle through education and referral to appropriate services.
- Help raise awareness of health promotion within the practice and the wider community.
The post holder will be required to:
- Work in accordance with practice guidelines to assist the clinical team
- Maintaining confidentiality and check patient identification
- Liaise with clinicians with any concerns
