Job summary

Receptionists should be positive, communicative and friendly with each member of the team. Your first priority is for patient care, you will be the first person the patient sees when they come into the surgery, so always be pleasant and friendly. Staff should interact well with other members of the team and should be willing to be flexible to cover where necessary to ensure the smooth running of the surgery.

Main duties of the job

GENERAL RECEPTION DUTIES - (This list is not exhaustive & is just a brief general summary )

* Opens up when on an early shift and prepares for opening, (Turn offalarm on entering), Open back gate padlock, Open back door fire exit, Open basement fireexit, Turn on CCTV, Turn all relevant PCs on.* Some filing of hospital letters / Notes etc.* Liaise with external hospital departments.* Prepares and posts any internal or external post when required.* Greet and direct patients in a friendly manner.* Answer telephones as quickly as possible and deal with calls efficiently.* Process repeat prescriptions when required.* Update visits in the computer system & visit book when needed.* Take messages efficiently & pass them to the correct person.* Assist with disabled or vulnerable patients when requested.* Report on any issues affecting Health & Safety or security to the leadreceptionist.* Closes up when on late shift, (Lock fire exits & back gate, makesure the premises are secure, all windows are locked, all PCs are switched off and set alarm) This should

be done if you are last out.* Any work requested of you to ensure smooth & adequate running of surgery.

HOUSEKEEPING DUTIES

* Ensure premises (Waiting areas mainly) are neat and tidy between surgeries.* Advise lead receptionist of any damage, repairs needed or anything needingextra cleaning from cleaners.

The job evolves all of the time especially with continual government targets & changes to care so there will be some admin duties that will expected to be carried out by the reception team as part of their responsibilities. This will be requested by the Lead or Practice Manager, full training will be given as required.
