Job summary
Ivy Court Surgery is a forward thinking, innovative rural GP surgery based in Tenterden. We are looking to develop our excellent nursing team with the addition of a new Practice Nurse.
We would welcome applications from experienced Practice Nurses with skills in chronic disease management including Diabetes and/or Respiratory. General treatment room and nursing skills also required.
The ideal candidate will have excellent team working ability as well as the confidence and initiative to work autonomously.
Salary according to experience, NMC registration fee reimbursed annually.
The
purpose of the post is to deliver safe, high quality primary care nursing
services to the practice population. Working within the NMC Code of Conduct the
post holder will take a nurse role within the nurses team, using previous
primary care experience to provide nurse interventions.
Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Clinical care delivery
general
Carry out nursing interventions and measurements for patients using clinical
judgement.
Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation.
Undertake initial assessment of patients presenting with wounds, produce
treatment plans and refer to other services as necessary.
Measure circulation by recording Ankle Brachial Pressure Index and applying
compression therapy to patients with venous leg ulcers.
Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips and staples.
Take samples for the cervical screening programme according to recognised
standards.
Provide ear care including removal of cerumen and provide education and advice.
Administer vaccines to adults and children according to the UK immunisation
schedule.
Administer prescribed therapies such as contraceptive injections, vitamin B12,
and depo neuroleptic medications recognising side effects and
contraindications.
Sexual health
Advise women on suitability of oral and long term contraceptive methods and be
aware of local referral pathways.
Long term conditions
Provide
a nurse-run asthma/diabetes/COPD service to patients to include screening,
diagnosis, ongoing management and referral to other agencies in line with NICE
guidance and Quality and Outcome Framework indicators.

We are a rural practice in the heart of Kent serving an ever growing community of over 14,500 patients. The new surgery, just off the High Street in Tenterden, builds on our commitment to provide the best facilities and services for our patients, with the very best care to match the new and improved surgery.
The medical team consists of four principal General Practitioners making up the Partnership of Ivy Court Surgery, supported by Associate GPs and a full complement of Nursing/HCA and administrative staff.
Within the Practice, you will not only find a vast array of services but our very own Dispensary.
We pride ourselves on the delivery of high-quality care to all of our patients, at all times, and look forward to welcoming you to the surgery.
The Practice employs some 40 part and full time support staff, who are organised into functional teams with team leaders, supported overall by our Operations Manager and Practice Manager.
In addition to this, there are cleaning, maintenance and gardening staff working within the Practice.
The Practice also works in conjunction with Social Prescribers, District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives, Psychiatric Nurses and Social Services, employed by local Clinical Commissioning Groups and other agencies.
