Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to train as a pharmacy technician through a 2 year apprenticeship programme, after which successful students will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council and practice as a Registered Pharmacy technician.

This is a fantastic opportunity to earn whilst training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Pharmacy Technicians are key members of the pharmacy workforce and undertake a variety of roles including:

- Dispensing and accuracy checking of prescribed items

- Supporting patients with over-the-counter and prescribed medicines

- Providing information to patients and other healthcare professionals,

- Reconciling medicines at transfer of Care (e.g. updating medication changes following discharge from hospital)

You will join a team of Pharmacists, Pharmacy technicians, dispensers and other members of the PCN and Community pharmacy teams. Support and supervision is provided throughout.

The post holders will work 2 days in General Practice, 2 days a week in Community Pharmacy and one day a week allocated for study.

This collaborative apprenticeship will provide all the necessary skills and knowledge to complete accredited Level 4 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Pharmacy Technicians at the University of East Anglia. Training will be carried out via distance learning on a day release basis.

Main duties of the job

There are 2 full time positions available.

You are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and be able to integrate into multiple teams. You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program within a Community Pharmacy and GP setting. You will need to demonstrate excellent work/study/life balance skills and be very self-motivated. Entry requirements for this post are a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) to include English, Maths and Science subjects. Candidates must be willing and able to travel between different surgeries. Full time salary for the role will be £19,317 increasing to £20,697 in the 2nd year. About us

TWNS PCN has 5 practices based in West Cheltenham, Newent, Staunton and 2 in Tewkesbury serving a population of around 48,000 patients. We are led by proactive and forward thinking GPs who have recognised the benefit the pharmacy team can have to general practice and have worked to grow and develop the team since it was established in 2016, being early adopters through the National Pilot of Clinical Pharmacists in GP practice. The Pharmacy team were proud Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2018 winners of the Excellence in GP Practice award and meet regularly to ensure that processes are similar between surgeries and support each other. Our Community Pharmacy partner is Northway Chemist, Northway, Tewkesbury with whom we have successfully worked with previously in training and developing our pre-registration pharmacists and our current Apprentice Pharmacy Technician who is due to qualify at the end of this year.
