Job summary

Stoneham Lane Surgery has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic part time healthcare GP Assistant to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, confident, and self-motivated, enjoy working in a challenging, busy environment and ideally will have experience of working in primary care.

You will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing support to the clinical and admin teams as required. The post holder will need experience to provide care for the presenting patient, including initial history taking, performing clinical assessment and safe procedures

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing support to the clinical and admin teams as required. The post holder will need experience to provide care for the presenting patient, including initial history taking, performing clinical assessment and safe procedures

Undertake venepuncture

Ensure all specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Anticoagulation monitoring

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, height/weights, urinalysis - recording findings accurately

Undertake patient health checks

Undertake home visits

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Carry out ECGs procedures as requested

Support team and deliver opportunistic health promotion programmes

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Provide clinical support and assistance during minor operations as required

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Suture Removal

Smoking Cessation

Chaperoning

Maintain stock control in trolley/room, monitor expiry dates, rotation.

Maintain cold chain procedures

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice Infection Control Policy

17 hours minimum per week + overtime as required.

Sessions are worked over 4 days as follows: -

Monday Morning 08.30 to 13.00 (4.5 hrs)

Tuesday Afternoon 14.00 to 18.00 (4.0 hrs)

Wednesday Day Off

Thursday Afternoon 14.00 to 18.00 (4.0hrs)

Friday Morning 08.30 to 13.00 (4.5 hrs)

Some flexibility with working hours and adhoc overtime will be required of all candidates.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • GCSE grade A to C (4-9) in English and Maths

Desirable

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or in training to obtain
  • Ear syringing certification
