Job summary
To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake new patient health checks
2. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
3. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
4. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
5. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
6. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
7. Carry out BMI checks as directed
8. Act as a chaperone as required
9. When trained, undertake diabetic foot checks
10. When trained, INR analysis
11. When trained, IM injections such as vitamin B12
12. When trained, administer flu vaccinations
13. When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
14. Carry out ECGs as requested
15. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
16. Assisting the GPs in minor surgery and gynaecology clinics
17. Monitoring stock control
18. Other administrative and clinical duties that might be required from time to time
19. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
20. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
21. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
22. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
