Job summary

We are a friendly supportive GP surgery in Bow E3, with about 4,000 registered patients. We are looking for a thorough and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist with good communication skills to assist the Practice in the delivery of excellent care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Excellent communication skills and telephone manner is essential. Ability to work with other members of the team, and computer literacy is critical. Previous general practice experience is highly essential.

General receptionist duties include (but are not limited to):

Providing patients with an efficient, helpful and friendly service.

Responding to queries both on the phone and face to face in a polite manner.

Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Booking appointments with an appropriate clinician accurately.

Keeping the reception areas clean and tidy.

Undertaking other general admin duties, e.g. scanning documents.

Any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or the Practice Manager.

We are a practice made up of two partners and two salaried doctors, 1 practice nurse and 8 non - clinical staff. Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

To arrange appointments for patients via our computerised appointments system.

Triage Accrux request with the support of the partners.

Taking and relaying messages over the telephone and face-to-face

Receiving patients and visitors at the reception desk and consulting with other members of the team

Deal with requests for prescriptions, reports, etc, and checking patient identifiable information, all in line with Practice protocols

Processing of prescription requests

Dealing with new patients documentation & temporary residents and entering details onto the system and creating new patient files

Process patients change of address computer data & medical records (have knowledge of practice area)

Have a working knowledge of our telephone system, during our core hours (8am to 6:30pm)

Be available to provide cover if requested even at short notice

General filing and photocopying

Ensuring that clinical rooms have equipment and consumables that is required for clinics

To maintain cleanliness the waiting area and reception area

Other tasks

Ensure the security of the building, complying with our Health & Safety Policy

Open and close the building dependant on shift allocation

To have a thorough knowledge of and work in accordance with all Practice policies & protocols

Carrying out any other duties reasonably requested by the Practice Manager and Clinicians.

Be familiar with, and follow the provisions of the Practices Health and Safety Policy and all other procedures and safety rules of the Practice

Co-operation with all measures the Practice takes to maintain a safe working environment

To maintain waiting and reception area tidy to ensure safe working environment and in line with Health and Safety protocol

Information Governance

Post holder is expected to assist in keeping data within the practice accurate and up to date such as patient records.

Process information in a secure and confidential manner both within the practice and to other external organizations or trusts.
