Job summary

We are looking to appoint a receptionist/administrator to join our busy GP practice. You will be the first point of contact for patients, contractors and visitors to the surgery. As well as covering Reception you will also be carrying out general administration tasks related to the work generated within a GP surgery.

Providing general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person, electronically or via the telephone.

Main duties of the job

Job Responsibilities:

Administration

  • To have a thorough knowledge of all Reception procedures.
  • To work in accordance of written protocols
  • To have general knowledge of Practice policies.

Reception

  • Receiving patients and consulting with members of the practice team
  • Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.

Appointments

  • Process appointment requests for on the day and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
  • Deal with home visit requests

Computer

  • Process patients change of address computer data and medical records.

Telephone

  • Have working knowledge of telephone/out of hours service, during and after hours.

Other Tasks

  • Ensure building security when opening the surgery or closing at the end of the day
  • Any other tasks allocated by managers that are appropriate to the role of a clinical support officer.

About us

We are a partnership of two doctors working from a beautifully restored Georgian Mansion in the centre of Whitehaven. We are proud to be able to offer a broad range of services to our patients and look to expand this service provision where possible. Our healthcare team consists of seven GPs, sonographer, four practice nurses, three advanced nurse practitioners and two healthcare assistants.

The healthcare team is supported by the receptionist/administrators who help with the running of the practice. All patient information is treated with the strictest of confidence. Community nurses and Midwives are attached to the practice who work jointly with the doctors. We also have several PCN staff now working in the practice including a paramedic, pharmacist, pharmacy technician and social prescriber.
