Job summary

Barnby Gate Surgery is looking for a highly motivated qualified Senior HCA to join our friendly team.

You will be part of a supportive nursing team working alongside other HCAs and Practice Nurses to deliver high quality care for our patients.

We need you to be confident in wound care and ideally vaccinations and immunisations; we are able to support your learning in other areas of Primary Care.

Barnby Gate Surgery has 14,000 patients and is based in the lovely market town of Newark. We have a diverse population and you will provide a wide range of healthcare to them including helping them manage their long term conditions to improve the quality of their lives.

We are looking for someone to work 24 hours per week, but can be flexible with this and the salary would be between £25,000 to £28,000 pro rata depending one experience.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role caring for our patients, many of whom have long term conditions.

You will have a mixed day doing a range of:

  • venapuncture
  • Dressings
  • ECGs
  • administering vaccinations
  • Long term condition reviews including blood pressure and weight

You will be a committed clinician putting our patients at the heart of what you do; you will also need to be a great team player working with your colleagues to get the best outcomes for patients.

About us

Barnby Gate Surgery is a friendly practice where we aim to provide great care for our patients. We have a mix of roles including prescribing nurses and pharmacists working alongside our GPs to provide holistic care.

The nursing team has a mix of highly skilled nurses and healthcare assistants working to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients. We provide lots of development opportunities within the team and have recently encouraged staff to train as Nurse Associates or as Registered Nurses.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.To prepare consulting rooms and maintain stocks of examination instruments and specimen collection materials

To take and record blood pressures using templates as requested by doctors or nurses

Long Term Condition Reviews

To test urine specimens using appropriate equipment and record as requested

To ensure that specimens brought in by patients or taken by doctors or nurses are ready for collection by pathology service

Complex and Simple dressings

To perform other clinical tasks as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice

To maintain accurate IT records of clinical tasks performed

To check and record fridge temperatures daily

To store instruments correctly

To follow protocols for all clinical procedures

To perform any other task within the skillset / training of the postholder e.g. Ear irrigation / assisting with minor operations / coil fits
