Job summary
Great Barr Medical Centre are looking to recruit a pharmacy technician, who
acts within their professional boundaries, supporting and working alongside a
team of healthcare practitioners within general practice and a Primary Care
Network (PCN). The post holder will be supported in this role by the PCN Pharmacy
Leads, who will manage, develop and provide mentorship.
The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary
team in a patient-facing role. They will take responsibility for areas of
medicines optimisation and safety within the practice.
Main duties of the job
Undertake
patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use,
through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
Carry
out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration
(e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews and medicines
reconciliation. Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in
partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
Support
the Clinical Pharmacist in Structure Medication Reviews (SMR) i.e. organise
necessary monitoring tests prior to SMR.
Provide
expertise to address both the public health and social care needs of patients,
including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local
health inequalities.
Manage
shared care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacists for more complex
patients.
About us
Great Barr Medical Centre is a well-established GP surgery in Great Barr, Birmingham with a growing capitation of over 10,000 patients. We have a purpose built modern building on Queslett Road with an adjoining pharmacy.
Our clinical team consists of three GP Partners, three long term Locum GPs, four Nurses, a Health Care Assistant, all lead by our Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
Our eleven-strong administrative team provide front-of-house & back-office support to the clinicians and registered or prospective patients.

and assist the practice repeat prescription system and work under supervision
to perform simple medicines reconciliation on transfer of care and implement systems
for safer prescribing, providing support in addressing both public and social
care needs of patients in the practice.
The post holder will provide support to the practice on
medicines optimisation and quality improvement (QI) including AMR and support
some aspects of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF), Enhanced Services and
other Local Incentive Schemes (PCCF).
The post holder will ensure that the practice
works with and integrates with all sectors of pharmacy across the health system
to improve population health. Demonstrating improvements in patient outcomes
and access to healthcare, contributing to improving the quality of care and
operational efficiencies at the practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- Professional Registration with GPhC.
- BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
- Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy
- Demonstrate ability to influence and persuade partners and stakeholders of the respective merits of different options, innovations, new opportunities and challenges
