Part-time Dispenser required for 3 days per week on a 2-week rolling rota at busy GP practice to work across 2 sites, Hornsea and Aldbrough. Own transport essential.

This is a demanding role, working to surgery protocols to deliver a first class service for patients. We are looking for someone to join an established team, who enjoys a challenge and will go the extra mile for patients.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive service to patients, including the preparation and processing of repeat prescriptions, acute prescriptions, and changes to medication. Dispense medication in accordance with patient requests and as authorised by Doctors and Nurse Prescribers.

The clinical team is well-supported by Care Navigators, Dispensers and Administrative staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To deal with patient enquiries by telephone and face to face in respect of requests for prescriptions.

To process prescriptions on the computer, ensuring all medication is linked to a diagnosis. Where necessary verify this information with the doctors and/or nurse prescribers to ensure clinical records are accurate and up to date.

Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as laid down in the SOPs Manual and allied to the Dispensing Services Quality Services (DSQS).

Report all significant events and near misses with dispensing medication to patients as required under DSQS.

Take part in audit as determined by DSQS.

Liaise with NHS and private hospitals in respect of enquiries regarding patient medication and advice of any change in medication following a consultant appointment or inpatient stay.

To liaise with Doctors, Nurses, Community Staff, and other colleagues regarding patient medication queries including dealing with documents and tasks in EMIS Web.

Dispense medicines in accordance with prescriptions authorised using the bar code scanning system.

Ensuring that payment is taken for all medicines dispensed and, in the case of exemption or pre-payment certificates, that information is verified. Obtain appropriate signatures on the reverse of the prescription form.

Order and dispense Controlled Drugs in strict accordance with the regulations.

Ordering drugs and dressings through suppliers as required with reference to drug tariff and other pricing information.

Ordering stocks of bottles, bags, labels and other consumables as required.

Checking goods received against delivery notes and putting away stock using the bar code scanning system.

Pricing of prescriptions and month end processing for the Prescription Pricing Authority.

Maintain up to date clinical records.

Ensure handovers to staff are conducted efficiently and comprehensively to ensure continuity of service to doctors and patients.

Maintain a clean and tidy workstation.

Follow practice policies and guidelines in terms of health and safety, risk management, IT security and code of connectivity and others.

Undertaking training and CPD relating to the role of Dispenser and also any mandatory and advisory training relating to work in primary care.

At all times observe the strict rules of confidentiality.
