Better Health MCR

Specialist Sexual Health & Contraception Nurse

The closing date is 22 April 2026

Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity to join Better Health MCR, a leading and unique primary care organisation working across two PCNs. Due to changes within the team we would like a new Nurse to join us to focus on providing a high quality and specialised contraception and sexual health service.

We are on a mission to think differently to provide imaginatively tailored care that meets the diverse needs of our patients, breaks down the barriers that sustain health inequalities and, ultimately, improves the lives of local people. We can only do this by encouraging all our staff to be curious and caring about what we do and how we do it; and to challenge and suggest different forms of service delivery. Outcomes thus far include the development of some innovative services, such as a recovery service dealing with addiction; a Wellbeing service dealing with non-medical issues; and a partnership with a local gallery supporting health and wellbeing.

Health inequalities and quality improvement are high on our agenda and have a dedicated personnel to support both work streams.

Main duties of the job

You will work within the nursing team and wider clinical team to provide family planning and sexual health services across our sites. The service is well established but we thrive on innovation and value positive changes to our systems and services which benefit our patients.

You will provide the full range of sexual health and family planning services including screening/ LARC/ education.

You will support the clinical teams with educational updates and ensure our policies remain up-to- date and meaningful. You will work with us to support uptake of the service specifically in our harder to reach groups/ new mothers/ students.

About us

We are Better Health MCR: thinking differently, breaking barriers, improving lives.

We are a friendly, forward-thinking, not-for-profit social enterprise providing primary care medical services in Manchester. We operate from three sites: The Robert Darbishire Practice in Rusholme Health Centre (which is also head office) with a branch practice at The University of Manchester, The Whitswood Practice in Alexandra Park Health Centre and Brooklands Medical Practice in Wythenshawe. In total we have about 46,000 patients.

Our patients are very diverse and include established communities as well as new communities from all over the world. We have good links with the University and a sizeable student population.

Our staff team of about 140 people has a great mix of skills and experience. We have exciting plans to expand this team even more, to help us further our mission to improve lives.

We have a great skill mix here which includes: ANPs/ GPs/ HCAs/ Mental Health Practitioners/ Nurses/ Pharmacists/ Physician Associates/ Physiotherapists. We work closely together and meet daily, virtually, to discuss pressing patient concerns and to share the responsibility of those with complex and sometimes chaotic needs. In addition, our Wellbeing team comprises Social Prescribers, Care navigators, Care coordinators and Health and Wellbeing Coaches. All members of staff are salaried.
