Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Better Health MCR, a leading Primary Care Network.

We are on a mission to think differently so provide imaginatively tailored care that meets the diverse needs of our patients, breaks down the barriers that sustain health inequalities and, ultimately, improves the lives of local people. We can only do this by encouraging all our staff to be curious and caring about what we do and how we do it; and to challenge and suggest different forms of service delivery. Outcomes thus far include the development of some innovative services, such as a RECOVERY service dealing with addiction; a Wellbeing service dealing with non-medical issues; and a Frequent Attender Service.

At Better Health MCR our people are our biggest asset. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise reinvesting in our patients, and importantly, in our staff.

Our Mental Health service is well established; its importance and benefit to our organisation means we want to expand it.

Main duties of the job

You will see adults presenting with new or recent mild to moderate mental health problems and support them through initial history taking, risk assessment, diagnosis, brief intervention, referral pathways and on-going support as required. You will support the practice to undertake mental health reviews and physical health checks for those with established mental health problems. You will support the practice to achieve high quality inclusive care for our patients with mental health problems.

You will work as part of the Mental Health Team and the wider clinical team consisting of ANPs/ GPs/ Nurses/ Pharmacists/ Physician Associates/ Physiotherapists. In addition, our Wellbeing team comprises Social Prescribers, Care Navigators, Care Coordinators and Health and Wellbeing Coaches. All members of staff are salaried.

We work closely together and meet daily, virtually, to discuss pressing patient concerns and to share the responsibility of those with complex and sometimes chaotic need.

About us

Better Health MCR is a not for profit, local, social enterprise and all profits are re-invested which gives us the flexibility to be innovative. We aim to be the best organisation of our kind in the country.

The organisation operates on four sites, The Robert Darbishire Practice (Rusholme) with a branch service at The University of Manchester, The Whitswood Practice (Alexandra Park) and New Bank Health Centre (Longsight). Our practices are in inner city areas with a diverse, multicultural population.

We have a large and supportive team and all of our staff (including the GPs) are employed by Better Health MCR. The organisation is run by a Board of Directors made up of the senior clinical and non-clinical staff.

We offer a welcoming and supportive environment with a comprehensive induction process. There are excellent professional development opportunities. The care of our staff is as important as the care we provide for patients.
