Job summary
A
vacancy for a Practice Nurse has arisen within our busy and friendly nursing
department at Filey Surgery. We are looking to recruit a proactive, energetic and positive Practice
Nurse to join our enthusiastic nursing team.
You will be fully qualified to offer a range of
services within Primary Care, or willing to undertake further training, with a
demonstrable ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will need to
have a willingness to access training and maintain registration with the NMC at
all times. You will be a caring and
dedicated professional who is flexible and able to work independently under
minimal supervision.
The vacancy is for 25.5-27 hours, to be worked over 3 days. Salary is dependent on qualifications & experience. Newly qualified applicants will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Being a Practice Nurse at the surgery will give you the opportunity to have a varied workload.
Experience in wound care, phlebotomy, cervical cytology, childhood immunisations and chronic disease management, with experience in respiratory medicine highly desirable.
A successful candidate will work with the other members of the clinical care team in treating and referring or signposting patients as appropriate.
NMC registration is essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Post:
Clinical Duties
- Dressings and wound management
- Phlebotomy and specimen collection
- Injections and immunisation
- ECGs
- Assisting with minor surgery
- Minor emergencies
- Cervical smears
- INR monitoring
Health promotion and disease management clinics including: - Coronary Heart Disease
- Asthma
- COPD
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Hormone Replacement Therapy
- Epilepsy management
- NHS health checks
- New patient medicals
- Elderly health checks
- Family planning service
Administrative duties:
- Maintenance of the treatment area, examination rooms and equipment adhering to any recommendations made by manufacturers or the infection control team.
- Control of cross infection - disinfection, sterilisation, contaminated waste.
- Maintaining emergency equipment
- Stock control - medications, dressings, injections, vaccines
- Updating patient computer records
- Assisting recall of patients for CDM programme
Professional Responsibilities: - Assist in collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad-hoc reports.
- Attend and participate in all practice meetings as required.
- Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.
- Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the computer.
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care.
- Assistance in creation and updating of clinical protocols
- Participate as required in any audits within the practice.
- Adhere to confidentiality policies.
- Flexibility to provide holiday/sickness cover.
Professional Development: - Maintain continued education by attendance of courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
- Training needs will be identified via the medium of clinical supervision facilitated by the GPs, and through an annual appraisal process.
