Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic Practice Healthcare Assistant to join our surgery. If you are looking for new challenges in a supportive and enthusiastic environment this is an exciting opportunity to be part of an integrated team. We are a busy, growing and dedicated GP Practice We support the training and development needs of all our staff in all areas. The successful applicant will work together with a fully supportive team and be supported by GP Partners, Salaried GP's and the practice nurse.

We are seeking to appoint someone for 15 to 20 hours per week. Salary is dependent on experience and there is an opportunity to join the NHS pension scheme.

About us

Euxton medical Centre has been an established surgery serving the Euxton population of 4.500 patients for more than 30 years. The practice premises were built in 1993 and we have had a full refurbishment in 2018.

We have 2 GP partners and 2 salaried GPs who all deliver an excellent and progressive service to our patient population. The GP team is supported by an innovative team of clinical staff and administrators.

Clinical Team - 1 Practice Nurse.

Administrative Team - Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager and an admin team of 13 staff.

We are part of Chorley Primary Care Network. As part of the network there are currently various additional roles working with all practices; Care Home Lead, Clinical Pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists, Social Prescribers, Pharmacy Technicians, Paramedics, Health and Wellbeing Coaches and Care Co-ordinators.

Job responsibilities

Job summary: working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific patient guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Job Responsibilities:

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.

Undertake new patient health checks

Undertake NHS Health checks

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording the findings accurately

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease reviews

Carry out BMI checks as directed

ECGs

Deal with Specimens

Act as a chaperone as required

Venepuncture

Administer flu vaccinations

Administer pneumonia vaccinations

Administer B12 Injections

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordant with guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:-

Participate in practice audits

Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation.

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level.
  • Experience of working with the general public.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting.

  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
