Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Practice Nurse to
join a friendly, dynamic and forward-thinking practice located in the East of
Southampton. We are interested in a candidate who is already a fully
functioning nurse. As a Practice Nurse, you will provide care for patients for wound management/injections/baby immunisations/Cervical Screenings/ECG's and Dopplers.
The working pattern is negotiable with
opportunities for flexible working arrangements.

About us
We are a diverse and friendly team of
GPs, Physician Associate, Clinical Pharmacists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners,
Paramedic, Social Prescriber, Nurses and HCAs who work together to provide high-quality
care for 20,000 patients in the Southampton area.
We are a well organised and hardworking team with a
long-established high QoF achievement. We actively support learning through
regular clinical meetings and teaching events. Everyone has an opportunity to
voice opinions as to how the practice can be improved. The clinical workload is
set at a realistic level, with time allocated for admin and additional
responsibilities.
Our friendly and supportive admin/reception team
assist in reducing admin workload as much as possible. We are also a teaching
practice for allied professional students across Hampshire.
During
the COVID pandemic, we have adapted our service to operate a triage system that
helps us identify and prioritise our sickest patients and those who can safely
be re-directed to self-care services. We also launched an online platform
called eConsult, where patients can contact us digitally. All our rooms are
equipped with video calling and double screen monitors.
We are active in the Bitterne Primary Care Network,
with a partner having shared responsibility as a clinical director. Our PCN
Education Environment Lead also helps to ensure staff opportunities to meet any
personal development goals.

Job responsibilities
- Undertaking phlebotomy procedures
- Blood pressure recording
- Recording of ECG
- Perform urinalysis
- Height and weight measurement
- Administering IM, SC, and ID injections
- Undertake ear irrigation
- Specimen collection (e.g. MSSU, EMU, nasal, throat and wound swabs)
- Dressing of wounds, including post-operative wounds.
- Removal of sutures, clips and staples
- Treatment of minor injuries/ailments
- Giving appropriate and predetermined advice and guidance to patients on healthy eating and living
- Childhood immunisations
- Travel health advice including preparation of immunisation schedules and administration of travel vaccines
- Influenza clinics (October)
- The Practice Nurse may also be required to assist in other procedures under the supervision of a Doctor and in accordance with the NMC guidelines.
- To report any problems/changes/complaints concerning the practice and the quality of medical care provided to patients to the Practice Manager
- Input and code patient clinical information in to the practice clinical system
- Ensure relevant nGMS prompts for the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) are coded and recorded appropriately
