Job summary

Westover Surgery is looking to recruit an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Practice nurse to join our established and friendly multi-disciplinary team, including GPs, Practice nurses, HCAs, Clinical Pharmacists and Social Prescribers set in the idyllic town of Falmouth, Cornwall.

We are currently seeking applications from proactive and positive experienced nurses, who will maintain high standards of nursing at all times, will proved and maintain a professional manner and work well within the MDT.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice nurse to join our friendly team. Ideally the successful applicant would be experienced in all aspects of practice nursing but this is not essential, full inhouse and external training is available with full support from the current nursing team.

This roll offers opportunities to develop into a fully qualified Practice nurse and opens many channels to progress and develop in both clinical and non-clinical capacities. The roll involves a wide variety of nursing care but clinical supervision is provided by a very supportive team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants main rolls would be:

ECG recording

Blood pressure monitoring

Flu vaccinations under PSD - B12, pneumococcal vaccination under PSD

Dressings/removal of clips/stiches

Urinalysis

Phlebotomy

Stock checks/ordering

Removal of sutures/clips

Childhood Vaccinations

Adult Vaccinations

Travel Vaccinations

Wound care and Compression dressings.

Chronic disease management, Diabetes and Asthmas

Cervical sample taker

About us

A Very supportive team consisting of 6 GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 HCA and administrative staff. The Successful candidate will work alongside our team to deliver care to patients accessing primary care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Practice nurse. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

Undertake new patient health checks

Undertake NHS health checks

Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Facilitate routine and 24-ECG monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Undertake Compression therapy and Doppler therapy tasks as required

Management of chronic disease clinics, including Diabetes, Asthma and COPD management.

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Venipuncture

Administer flu vaccinations, pneumonia vaccinations and Shingles vaccinations

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Cervical smear clinics

Childhood immunisation

Travel vaccines

Compression dressing therapy

Contraception Clinics

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
