Job summary

We are looking for a caring and reliable Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly and supportive team at The Leith Hill Practice. In this vital role, you will work alongside our nurses and GPs to deliver high-quality care to our patients including phlebotomy, ECG's, healthchecks, chaperoning and more. The role will be 15 hours per week (3 morning shifts)

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake venepuncture procedures safely and efficiently
  • Perform baseline observations including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, ensuring accurate recording of all findings
  • Carry out ECGs as requested by clinicians
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, providing appropriate advice to patients
  • Conduct BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone during examinations and assist in minor operations clinics
  • Administer vaccinations (e.g., Flu, Pneumococcal) once trained and competent
  • Undertake new patient health checks to support patient assessment
  • Ensure specimens are correctly recorded and prepared for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor surgical procedures as required
  • Manage clinical facilities tasks in line with practice and infection prevention control policies, including (but not limited to) clinical waste removal, sharps bin replacement, room stocking, stock ordering, and fridge temperature monitoring
  • Support Practice Nurses in delivering health promotion programmes
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion messages to patients when appropriate

Venepuncture and Specimen Collection:

Safely perform blood draws and collect specimens following local protocols, ensuring accurate labelling and preparation for onward transportation.

Baseline Observations:

Carry out vital signs monitoring, including blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and pulse oximetry, accurately recording findings and alerting clinical staff to any concerns.

Electrocardiograms (ECGs):

Perform ECGs as requested by clinicians, ensuring patient comfort and quality of recordings.

Minor Operations Support and Chaperoning:

Assist clinicians during minor procedures, prepare clinical rooms, and act as a chaperone during examinations in accordance with practice policies.

Vaccination Administration:
