Job summary
The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the decision-making process. Under the supervision of a GP Partner, they will work collaboratively as part of the practice team and provide advice to meet the needs of patients, and their relatives and carers, while at all times working within the agreed policies and procedures supporting the way care is provided.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide advice for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients being treated.

You would be joining a team with huge variety of skills and experience, including GPs practitioners, pharmacists, specialist diabetes and heart failure nurses, HCA, Nurse Associates. We work on one site facilitating easy communication.
We are keen to support the development of new staff and regular supervision will be provided by a senior GP. We have weekly multi-disciplinary meetings and regular tutorials to ensure all staff can develop their full potential.

Physician associates are dependent practitioners but can work autonomously with appropriate support. However, you will need to stay within the limits of your scope of practice and know when to refer to doctors and other healthcare professionals.
As a physician associate, you'll need to:
- Take patient medical histories during face-to-face and/or telephone consultations
- Carry out physical examinations
- Order diagnostic tests and analyse results
- Make diagnoses and clinical assessments
- Carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of your role
- Develop and deliver appropriate treatment and care management plans in consultation with patients, their relatives and carers
- Organise further investigations, treatment and referral to a doctor/other healthcare professional where appropriate
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care management plans
- Make home visits to patients who are unable to visit the surgery/hospital due to their condition
- Provide patients with advice and counselling on health promotion and disease prevention
- Maintain accurate clinical records
- Complete paperwork and other administrative duties, including writing reports, letters and other correspondence.
