Bedminster Family Practice has a fantastic opportunity for a medical secretary/administrator to join their team on a full-time basis.
Our team is currently made up of approximately 50 members of staff and is continually growing, including; GP partners, salaried GPs, practice nurses, health care assistants, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physician associate, social prescriber, physio, management and admin teams, care navigation team (reception team), and GP support team.
This is an essential role at the practice, providing an efficient, comprehensive secretarial and administrative support service to the clinical and practice management team.

Main duties of the job
- Providing a full secretarial service including efficient copy-typing and word processing, for all GPs and health professionals, as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, meeting minutes, memorandums, etc., in an accurate and quality manner;
- Handling patient and practice queries, regarding hospital appointments and treatments, confidentially;
- Ensuring that any requests for information from medical records are appropriately dealt with, according to practice policy, and that all subsequent charges are invoiced appropriately;
- Maintaining the computer-based clinic system, in an accurate and secure manner;
- Assisting with the gathering of statistics and information, when required;
- Performing any reasonable administrative tasks, as requested by the practice manager.
About us
Bedminster Family Practice is a friendly, GP Practice situated in purpose-built premises with a patient list size of 13,500. We are part of Swift Primary Care Network (PCN).
The Practice is located close to Bristol City Centre and within walking distance of Bristol Harbourside and Temple Meads train station.
Bedminster Family Practice is led by an enthusiastic and proactive team of three Partners who are involved on a day-to-day basis with the running of the Practice, each taking a role in management and supported by a Practice Manager.

Job responsibilities
- To provide an efficient typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, invoices, patient referrals, etc. in an accurate and timely manner
- To assist the clinicians with any clerical and administrative duties
- To use referral pathway software as required including Remedy and eReferrals
- To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries in a polite and professional manner
- To maintain the computer clinical system (EMIS) in an accurate and secure manner
- To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required
- To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave
- To main and distribute incoming emails from the secretary email account
- To action documentation received via Docman
- To maintain eReferral worklists daily
- Any other duties as reasonably requested
- Attending meetings in the absence of senior secretary
- Support the QOF team by running appropriate searches on a weekly basis
- Health and Safety checks under the guidance of the Operations Manager
- Maintain patient notice boards in line with CQC standards
- Ordering of stationary and supplies
