Main duties of the job
Main Duties of a Healthcare Assistant in Primary CareClinical Responsibilities:
- Patient Observations: Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen levels).
- Phlebotomy: Take blood samples and prepare them for lab processing.
- Health Screenings: Perform NHS Health Checks, including BMI calculations, cholesterol checks, and lifestyle assessments.
- Chronic Disease Support: Assist in monitoring conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma by performing routine checks.
- Wound Care & Dressings: Assist in basic wound management under the guidance of nurses.
- ECGs & Other Procedures: Carry out electrocardiograms (ECGs), urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests as required.
- Vaccinations & Injections: Administer flu vaccines and other injections (if trained and competent).
- Lifestyle Advice: Offer basic health and well-being guidance, including smoking cessation and weight management.
- Assisting Clinicians: Support GPs and nurses during minor procedures, examinations, and clinics.
- New Patient Health Checks: Conduct initial assessments for new patients registering at the practice.
- Maintaining Records: Ensure accurate documentation of all procedures and patient interactions.
- Stock Control: Manage clinical supplies, ensuring necessary equipment is available.
- Infection Control & Safety: Maintain high standards of cleanliness and adhere to infection prevention protocols.
