JOB DESCRIPTION PRACTICE NURSE

Job Title: Practice Nurse
Reports To: Partners / Practice Manager
Accountable To: All Partners
Location:
West Oak Surgery,
319 Westdale Lane, Mapperley, Nottm
Hours: Thursdays & Fridays (8 hours per day - times negotiable)

JOB PURPOSE
The practice
nurse will ensure that the health needs of the patients will be maintained to a
high standard by assisting in, and performing routine tasks related to patient
care as directed by the GP Partners and Practice Manager.
3.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 Day to day duties:
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to
patient care as directed by the Practice Manager and GP Partners, including (but
not exhaustive):
Cytology
Travel vaccinations
ECGs
24hr Blood pressure monitoring and recording
Venepuncture
Wound care assessment and delegate as required
to the HCA
Suture removal
LTC Management (Diabetes, Asthma,
Hypertension, COPD)
Routine immunisations / Childhood immunisations
INR/Warfarin monitoring
Contraception advice and reviews following
agreed protocols
Maintain clinical records
QC checks for INR
Home visits occasional
Chaperoning and assisting patients where
appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
Requesting pathology tests, for example urine
culture, swabs
3.2 Personal / Professional Development
The post-holder will participate in any
training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment
Participation in an annual, individual
performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of
own personal and/or professional development.
Taking responsibility for own development,
learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who
are undertaking similar work.
Taking responsibility for ensuring all
training is up to date and completed to a satisfactory standard
3.3 Quality
The postholder will strive to maintain quality
within the practice, and will:
Alert other team members to issues of quality

for own actions, either directly or under supervision
Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by
reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve
and enhance the teams performance

agencies to meet patients needs

Knowledge of Quality Outcomes Framework
Good working knowledge of SystmOne (training can be provided for the right applicant)
3.4 Strategy and Duties to the Partnership
Keep abreast of current affairs and changes to
national policy and identify potential threats and opportunities
Adapt existing services and implement new ones
where necessary in response to patient needs
Work with the Partners and Practice Manager to
ensure that the will of the partnership is reflected in the day-to-day
operations of the practice
Take responsibility for actions that emerge
from clinical meetings and highlight any challenges faced and help required
where necessary
Apply practice policies, standards and
guidance
Discuss with other members of the team how the
policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
Participate in audits and clinical searches
when appropriate
Responsible for participating in obtaining QOF
for nurse led areas
3.5 Premises and Equipment
Responsible for some equipment management and
maintenance, including liaising with suppliers and IT services where
appropriate.
Order new equipment or stock as necessary and
within the budgetary allowances delegated to you by the Practice Manager.
Ensure that all Infection Control measures are
adhered to, and maintain a position of Infection Control Lead for the Practice.
Maintain equipment used by the nurses and GPs
Maintain the nurses room
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of
nurses and treatment rooms
3.6 Information Management & Technology
Ensure regular IT training is adhered to in
order to competently run clinical applications
Ensure safe working and patient data
confidentiality in line with the practice Data Protection policy.
Run clinical searches as requested and
appropriate to the position
3.7 Risk Management
Ensure that all health and safety laws and
regulations are followed and upheld as appropriate to the position
Conduct clinical risk assessments such as Hep
B status and vaccination status for other staff
