Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Phlebotomist to work 21 hours per week across our two sites and, if needed, to take domiciliary samples. Days and hours are negotiable at the time of interview and will be based on current demand for appointments

Working under the direct supervision of the clinical team and in accordance with practice policy and protocols, the phlebotomist will assist the team in the provision of prescribed patient care, ensuring that samples are carefully and accurately labelled and prepared for collection.

You will need good IT skills. You must be able to manage your own clinic and record information in the patients notes after every sample taken.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • Venepuncture
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Requesting pathology tests
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to nurses or GP
  • Excellent communication skills
  • INR* if trained
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Testing and processing urine specimens

Extended duties if already trained (or later, where training is required):

  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Monitoring and recording patients vital signs, BP, Pulse
  • ECG recording
