Job Description
JOB TITLE: HCA & Phlebotomist
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST:
1)
To provide a service to patients as
determined by the clinical team.
2)To provide clinical and administrative support to the Nursing team.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Practice
Manager
1. Start and end of day procedures
Ensure you are ready to commence work with
computers switched on and ready by the time you are due to commence work at the
start of day and make all necessary preparation to receive patients.
Ensure your clinical room is closed down
and re-stocked ready for the next clinician.
2. Training/Meetings
To attend any relevant training courses
arranged by the Practice.
To attend regular staff meetings and
Protected Learning Afternoons
3. Main Duties & Responsibilities of Phlebotomist
The relevant training and induction
period will be in place in order for the following to take place.
Seeing
patients on a with five minute appointment slots to take their blood samples
Ensuring you
are familiar with the correct procedure and correct bottles to use
Printing out
labels for blood bottles
Ensuring
correct bloods are taken according to the clinicians request on the blood form
and if necessary re-printing lost blood forms.
Ensuring
patients medical records are updated
Ensure
appointments run to time.
Attending
relevant training courses
No nail varnish or false nails to be
worn in order to meet infection control guidelines. Uniform will be provided.
Assist in
maintaining stock levels
To act as
chaperone when required
Ensure health
and safety legislation is adhered to at all times
Ensure you are ready to commence work with computers switched
on and ready by the time you are due to commence work at the start of day and
make all necessary preparation to receive patients.
4. Main
Duties of HCA
Seeing
patients in a ten minute appointment slot to remove sutures, staples, carry out
ECGs, blood pressure monitoring, New patient health checks, NHS Health checks,
Simple dressings (previously assessed by the nurse) and any other task the
nursing team agree that you are competent to do.
Ensuring
patients medical records are updated
Ensure
appointments run to time.
Check urine
samples dropped in by patients and relay the results on the clinical sytem to
the duty GP
Attending
relevant training courses

Assist in

A degree
of flexibility will be required to cover additional clinics during high pressure
times (for example: last QOF quarter and flu vaccination season).
