Job summary
We are a centralised prescription ordering department for GP Practices. We are currently based at West Heath Medical Centre in Northfield. The POD Call handler will be working with various member practices the South Birmingham area, requiring extra support to deliver efficient prescribing processes thus reducing medicines waste and delivering better quality for patients and the GP Practices.
We are looking to recruit some fixed term contracts and permanent.
The hours for this role are: 37.5 hours.
POD Opening times are 8:30am and 5:30pm so hours will be within that time.

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities
1. Using a call centre based telephone system and taking requests for medications for patients that are registered at various GP practices.
2. Producing repeat prescriptions using GP practice software, Emis Web.
3. Having an understanding of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) and being confident in its explanation to patients.
4. To be able to respond efficiently to a demanding role with constant pressure from telephone calls whilst maintaining accuracy and ability to follow up all queries in a timely manner.
5. To ensure that GPs have access to electronic or paper prescriptions for signing within an appropriate timescale.
6. To ensure that patients are not over ordering prescription items, are only ordering items that they require and are informing of any items that they are no longer taking to ensure that patient safety is paramount.
7. To be involved in other waste / volume reduction projects as required by the organisation.

3. Remove from a patients repeat list any unnecessary repeat prescriptions that have not been ordered for an agreed length of time.
4. To advocate the use of the Repeat Prescription Management Code of Practice.
5. Promotion of waste campaigns.
6. Patient education regarding the issues of prescribing waste.
7. To be aware of organisational guidelines and refer to them as necessary.
8. Highlight areas of prescribing waste and suggest methods for identification.
