Job summary

The Finance Manager will be responsible for leading improvements in the commerciality of the organisation, making sure that all contractual arrangements are put in place effectively, with appropriate procurement, management, and reporting. The incumbent will also be responsible for producing and analysing the financial performance of each service bringing a new focus on accurate commercial performance metrics wherever MHH operates.

Main duties of the job

The Finance Manager will report to the Chief Executive and provide accurate financial and performance information about the operations of the organisation, including overall monthly financial reporting with variance analysis for presenting to the Board. They will also actively participate in the annual budgeting process and the preparation of costings for new service proposals.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with operational leads, assisting and supporting the operational teams to deliver a better commercial offering. They will provide analytical support to understand the performance that each service is delivering. They will be expected to play a key role to improve the commerciality of the contracts that MHH enters into.

Job responsibilities

Service Contractual Arrangements:

  • Working with the service leads, ensure that any new contracts are commercially acceptable, delivering sufficient revenue to enable the operational teams to deliver high quality care within the funding achieved.
  • Work to support the service leads to renegotiate contracts which have been struck at unprofitable levels, bringing increased revenue into the organisation.
  • Ensure that relationships between the organisation and commissioners are managed to achieve an equitable relationship and that MHH provides accurate data that is required as part of the contract.
  • Ensure that data provided to the Chief Executive and other members of the management team is as robust and accurate as possible.

Commercial Contract Management:

  • Take responsibility for all significant commercial contracts for MHH.
  • Review the appropriateness of existing commercial contracts and where possible re-negotiate and re contract to ensure that the terms and deliverables are fit for purpose.
  • Deliver cost savings from renegotiation of contracts or through the procurement of new and alternative suppliers.
  • Ensure that contractual arrangements are documented appropriately and that contractual relationships are fair and reflective of the needs of the business.

Finance:

Day to Day Transaction flow for purchases and sales (using Quickbooks online)

Prepare monthly financial reporting including variance analysis and actions for improvement.

Maintain integrity over general ledger transactions to ensure correct recording and treatment.

Support the Chief Executive in the preparation of annual budgets and regular forecasts

Implement controls over all financial transactions

Planning:

  • Support the Chief Executive to ensure that the operational plans reflect the direction set by the MHH Board and are robust and consistent across the organisation.
  • Support the Chief Executive with regular performance meetings with service leads to review performance against budget and produce rectifying actions if performance dips below that required.

General:

  • Produce regular progress reports for the Chief Executive and MHH Board as required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of internal policies, practices and procedures as appropriate.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the organisation and adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving and anticipating and evaluating information needs. Build working relations with all departments.
