Colwall Surgery is looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our practice on a part time basis.
The Healthcare Assistant provides services to patients who require a variety of treatments and/or tests including phlebotomy, vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, health checks, dressings, ECGs and many more tasks.
Colwall Surgery is a small, friendly practice serving a practice population of 3,100 patients. The surgery strives to deliver a high standard of care which is patient focused.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
The post holders should effectively manage their own time workload and resources, assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision. The post holder should be able to communicate effectively with team members and patients, and recognise where there is a need for alternative methods of communication.
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy.
About us
Colwall Surgery has two GPs, two Practice Nurses and a small administrative team. There are other healthcare professionals allied with the surgery such as Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Care Co-ordinator, Social Prescriber and District Nurses.
The surgery consistently is a high achiever in Quality Outcomes Framework and participates in the national and local programmes in order to care for our patients in a holistic way.

Urinalysis
Influenza and Pneumococcal immunisationand B12 injections

Simple wound dressings
Suture removal
Phlebotomy
BP monitoring -including setting up24 hour Blood Pressure Monitoring
Chaperoning duties
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Conforming with clinical waste procedures
Assisting Minor Surgery/IUCD/Implant fitting
Weight management referral
Undertake contraceptive pill checks
Assist nurses when available and if required

- - Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care
- - NHS Care Certificate
