Job summary

The ideal candidate will be an HCA experienced in working General Practice. As a member of the practice based nursing team to assist nurses and GPs in the delivery of the highest standard of patient care, ensuring that this is sensitive to the needs of the patient.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the delivery of patient care, ensuring that patient safety and well-being is respected at all times. This includes taking significant numbers of blood samples.
  • Carrying out new patient checks and long term condition reviews, testing urine, blood pressure checks, heights, weights, peak flow recordings, ECGs, dressing wounds and leg ulcers as directed, and assisting with 24 hour BP monitoring. Administer flu vaccinations as directed.
  • To ensure the practice treatment rooms and consulting rooms are kept in a clean and tidy state and that equipment is in working order, clean and available for use.
  • To ensure that the drug refrigerators are at the correct temperature and that drugs are within their expiry dates and used in correct sequence.
  • To, ensure that adequate levels of stock are available and ordering performed as necessary and rooms are stocked.
  • To record all patient contacts as appropriate.

We are a friendly and busy GP surgery based in Wantage. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced HCA with a strong emphasis on good teamwork and flexibility to join our team. We are a training practice housed in a modern health centre with 5 GP partners and a 15,500 patient list

Job responsibilities

  • To communicate courteously and effectively with patients, relatives and carers.
  • To ensure the practice treatment rooms and consulting rooms are kept in a clean and tidy state and that equipment is in working order, clean and available for use.

  • To advise the Lead Nurse and/or Practice Manager of the need for drugs and other supplies, ordering as appropriate, ensuring that adequate levels of stock are available and stocking rooms.
  • To report all matters pertaining to patient care (e.g. changes in condition or circumstances) to a relevant member of the nursing or medical team as a matter of priority and to ensure that a documented record is kept.
  • To make sure that health promotion materials are available & displayed within the surgeries ordering new stock when needed.
  • To record all patient contacts as appropriate.
  • To participate in audits as required
  • To undertake other such duties as the Lead nurse may reasonably require
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
  • Carry out any other duty that may be reasonably requested and within your level of skills
