Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and proactive administration team as a Clinical Coder/Clinical Services Assistant.

The post is for 37.5 hours a week. 

Our core opening hours are between 8.00 and 18.30

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have excellent motivation and communication skills, along with an excellent understanding of clinical coding.

Using Docman and Emis clinical system you will code letters and documents that come into the Practice and share with the relevant clinician or practice team.  This role incorporates support to the clinical services administrator, in achieving the practice's QOF,IIF and in delivering and claiming the clinical services provided by the practice.

This is an exciting and varied role, confidentiality is vital along with having experience of read coding in primary care setting. The post is independent, and can include some home working, however, you will work closely with our clinical and practice teams and build positive relationships within the practice.

The University Medical Centre is a busy GP Practice in Canterbury that provides medical services predominantly to the student population and also to the residents in our local area. We serve a population of around 16,000 patients. We are a 6 partner practice and have a variety of services that meets the needs of our unusual population.

The candidate will support the clinical and reception teams administratively, and complete clinical coding from workflow.

Main duties:

  • Ensuring all documents sent to the practice are reviewed, relevant information is coded and entered into the patients medical record.

  • Filing and retrieving, scanning paperwork

  • To ensure all targets are met and data is processed safely.

  • To help the practice meet coding targets.

  • To ensure data is accurate

  • Ensuring documents are work flowed to the correct team or clinician in a timely manner.

  • Prioritise and manage own workload

  • Work across practice teams and build positive relationships within the practice.

  • To assist the clinical services administrator in the achievement and delivery of QOF, IIF and the practices clinical services.

  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

  • Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

  • Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holders role

  • Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually)

  • Reporting potential risks identified
