Job summary

We are recruiting a part-time Medical Receptionist to join our busy team.

We are looking for somebody with experience of working with the public in a frontline customer service role and IT skills are essential.

The hours of work will be 20 hours per week but flexibility will be required for holiday and sickness cover of colleagues.

Previous Receptionist experience within a medical setting would be an advantage, though not essential as full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring that all enquiries from patients are handled efficiently and courteously.

Prepare for each surgery, ensuring premises are tidy.

Receive and make telephone calls and take messages accurately.

Book and cancel appointments and deal efficiently with the clinical record computerised system.

Answer general enquiries and explain practice procedures.

Open and close surgery premises.

About us

Liquorpond Surgery is a busy practice within the town of Boston, with a patient population of nearly 12,000. There are 4 GP's, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a clinical support team comprising of Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To meet and greet patients in an efficient, professional and polite manner following practice Stand Operating Procedures.

Undertake a variety of duties within the Reception and Administration Office to assist in the smooth running of the practice including dealing with patient requests and enquiries, processing all forms of communication from other health care stakeholders, clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Practice team.

Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Reception Supervisors or Practice Manager dependent on current and evolving workload and staffing levels, including;

  • Booking of appointments ensuring that appointments are maintained correctly and accurately. Bringing any problems with the appointment system to the attention of the Reception Supervisor - knowledge of Information Technology, with a knowledge of GP recording computer programme SystmOne; if not known, training will be provided.
  • Dealing with patient and general enquiries over the telephone as well as face to face - applicant must have excellent people skills and ability to work under pressure, maintaining a courteous and polite manner at all times. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and an ability to show compassion and empathy to patients.
  • Generating Repeat Prescriptions following strict protocols

Due to the nature of the service provided confidentiality is key to this job role. The surgery works within established protocols ensuring compliance with all mandatory regulations including (but not exhaustive); General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Data Protection Act, Caldicott Principles.
