Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be an integral part of our clinical team, working alongside Clinical Pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, andoptimisedmedicinesmanagement for our patients. You will play a key role in supporting prescription management, medicines reconciliation, and repeat prescribing processes, improving medication safety and patient outcomes.

Job responsibilities

  • Support medicines reconciliation for patients transitioning between care settings, ensuring accurate and safe prescribing.

  • Process repeat prescription requests efficiently and safely, in line with best practice and clinical guidelines.

  • Manage medication queries from patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.

  • Work collaboratively with Clinical Pharmacists and GPs to optimise prescribing, reduce medicines waste, and enhance medication safety.

  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of prescribing protocols, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality patient care.

  • Conduct audits and contribute to quality improvement initiatives to improve medicines management.

  • Support chronic disease management by reviewing medication regimes and identifying opportunities for optimisation.

  • Provide guidance and support to patients on medication adherence, side effects, and self-care.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records, ensuring compliance with regulatory and best-practice guidelines.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and collaboration within the pharmacy team and across the wider organisation.

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent qualification).
  • Minimum of 12 months experience working in primary care.
  • Strong understanding of medicines management, prescribing processes, and medicines optimisation principles.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of EmisWeb.
  • Experience conducting structured medication reviews and supporting long-term condition management.
  • Completion of the Primary care pharmacy education pathway
