Job summary
Ouse Valley Practice are looking for 2 part-time Medical Receptionists to join our busy reception team of 6.
We are a rural practice with plenty of parking.
Training will be given.
Main duties of the job
Taking telephone calls from patients, checking patients into our clinical system, dealing with task queries, book appointments for patients.
Dealing with queries from GP/Nurses
The post-holder should recognize the importnace of effective communication within the team
The post holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice
The post holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment
About us
We have 4 Partners, a nursing team, which consists of 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA and 1 Phlebotomist.
We are a dispensing practice with 6 dispensers and 2 counter staff.
We have an admin team including secretaries and an IT member of staff.
We open at 8.30am and close at 6pm.
We have a branch surgery at Balcombe, which is open 3 mornings a week.
We are a great team, busy, and all want to do the best for the patients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
- Open and make ready the surgery in the morning
- Receive patients awaiting appointments and ensure efficiency of appointment system
- Ensure patients without appointments but who need urgent consultations are seen
- Book appointments for patients to see doctors, nurses and other clinicians
- Navigate patients to alternative services
- Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors
- Ability to multi-task between patients and clinical staff
- Advise patients of relevant charges for private services
- Ensure necessary information is passed to lead doctor or duty doctor
- Register new and temporary patients
- Book and action waiting lists
- Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages as appropriate. Incoming calls must be priority
- Action emails in reception email inbox
- Receive specimens from patients or doctors and ensure despatch to hospital laboratory
- Data Entry
- Check all blood and urine results received
- Check task screen and action where necessary
- Tidy and close the surgery at the end of the day
