We are a friendly, patient focused, dispensing practice with 7750 patients. We are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our team.

We are looking for someone who would be happy to work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs, nurse, HCA, phlebotomist, dispensers, medical receptionists, pharmacist & social prescribers

The role:

Ideally, you will have experience of practice nursing, and be confident in delivering child immunisations, cervical cytology, wound care, chronic disease management and travel immunisations & ECGs. This list is not exhaustive.

This is a part time position of 24hrs per week worked over 3 days, Monday, Tuesday & Friday. We would be happy to offer more hours if required. A competitive salary, based upon experience, will be offered.

HARSTON SURGERY

JOB DISCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION.

PRACTICE NURSE

  • Hours: 24 hours per week plus cover for Annual Leave/sickness
  • Review after 3months
  • Responsible to GPs for clinical matters, to Practice Manager for non-clinical matters
  • Holiday: 5 weeks annually
  • Start Date: TBC

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of Harston Surgery

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

NB It is recognised that additional training will be required for some of the tasks listed.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care. Such tasks will include:

Child and baby immunisations

Adult immunisations including Shingles, Pneumonia, Flu, Diptheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis etc.

Travel vaccinations including Yellow Fever (Training will be given)

Asthma & COPD monitoring (Training will be given)

Spirometry

Diabetic monitoring

Cervical smears

Wound care (primary & secondary) and dressings including compression bandaging

Suture removal

Doppler tests

Injections

Assisting G.P with insertion of Zoladex implants

Assisting during minor surgical procedures

Assisting during insertion of IUD and contraceptive implants

Ear irrigation

NHS Health checks

Contraceptive & HRT checks

Changing of male, female and supra-pubic urinary catheters, including catheter flushing

PICC line care

ECG's

Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Following agreed clinical protocols.

All tasks to be entered through an appropriate Template

Other tasks will include:

Keep room clean clutter free and tidy

Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs

Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required

Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

Ordering of Health Promotion Literature

Ordering of stock from the local Hospital

Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels

Participation in administrative systems in the practice

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

A duty to advise colleagues of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.

On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.

Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense.

A commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post.
