Health Care Assistant

An opportunity has become available for Health Care Assistants at Primary Care Sheffield Practices, for 18 hours and 26 hours per week at Heeley Surgery, Darnall Primary Care and North Darnall Health Centre.

We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Assistant to work with this forward thinking service, which provides excellent care and has a passion for improving health outcomes for patients.

PCS Practices sit across Sheffield and ideally applicants would drive or travel freely as we may need them working in different sites on different days. We are a very friendly and close-knit team consists of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist, Physio, and other Healthcare Assistants and an experienced administrative team. The work is always interesting and often challenging however it is also hugely rewarding. The team is supportive, with excellent and experienced clinical support on site.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a Health Care Assistant who, as a minimum, is trained or is able to be trained in venepuncture, BP checks, flu vaccines and simple wound care and training for these tasks can be provided if necessary.

In your role as HCA you will benefit from our nurse group meetings and regular educational meetings to support your learning and development. On appointment you will have a short induction into the service and support will always be available when needed from our Clinical Nurse Lead.

Must have clean British Driving Licence and Primary Care experience.

Phlebotomy

Health Checks

Basic Wound Care

Ear irrigation

Pre Diabetic checks, including foot checks

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

B12 injections and flu vaccinations

BP/weight/height checks

Chaperoning duties

Cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment as necessary

Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms

Medical consumables stock control and ordering

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Escalating clinical and safeguarding concerns appropriately.

  • NVQ III or relevant equivalent training, knowledge and experience in a Health Care Assistant profession.
