A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an additional Physician Associate (PA) to join our multi-disciplinary team as part of the South Camden Primary Care Network (PCN).

We are a team of three Practices, working closely together, with a combined population of around 30000 patients. The PCN has adopted new methods of working with an extended clinical workforce including GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Practice Nurses, Physicians Associates and a Social Care Link worker.

The PCN has a strong ethos of education and member practices provide both undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Excellent communication and IT skills are essential.

The successful candidate is required to have completed the Physician Associate Postgraduate Diploma/Masters from an accredited UK university and will be registered with the Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR) held by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).

Main duties of the job

This post would suit a Physician Associate looking to work in an exciting, rewarding but demanding environment. You will need to demonstrate safe clinical decision-making and expert care, for patients presenting with unscheduled problems and chronic diseases. The Physician Associate will be required to offer specialised clinics, following appropriate training, for example cervical smears, baby clinics, travel immunisations.

The South Camden Primary Care Network comprises three practices, Holborn Medical Centre, St Philips Medical Centre and Museum Practice, with a combined population of 30000 patients. The practices are within comfortable walking distance of each other based in Central London, near Covent Garden and Russell Square.

Job responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an additional Physician Associate with a passion for developing a career in primary care to join our multidisciplinary team at the South Camden PCN.

The post holder will:

· Undertake face to face, telephone, video and online consultations (eConsults)

· Provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems - utilising history taking, physical examinations, problem solving and clinical decision-making skills - to establish a working diagnosis and management plan

· Manage patients with long term conditions.

· Where required by the PCN and following appropriate training, offer specialised clinics following appropriate training including but not limited to family planning, cervical smear, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation

· Support the clinical team with safeguarding matters, in accordance with local and national policies

· Utilise local and national clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice

· Be able to justify choices of medication and be able to understand the impact of comorbidities and other medications when prescribing

· Provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients

· Deliver integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with the wider primary care network multi-disciplinary team and social care networks

· Undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas

· Undertake consultations during extended hours (i.e. outside the core hours of Monday to Friday 8am to 6:30pm) in accordance with the access needs of the network

· Participate in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis tasks

· Record clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes to agreed standards

· Collect data for audit purposes

· Ensure continuing education, training and development is undertaken to meet clinical governance guidelines for Continuing Professional Development and a Personal Development Plan.

· Undertake 50 hours of continuing medical education (CPD) every year. A minimum of 25 hours must be in accredited direct learning programmes.

· Take the UK PA National Re-certification Examination every six years, as required for Physician Associates.

· Attend regular educational meetings organised by the practice to update clinical knowledge, practice policy and guidelines and disseminate other useful information relevant to the provision of adequate healthcare for patients.
