COVID Virtual Ward and Hot Hub Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

PLEASE NOTE THAT CGH PARTNERSHIP ARE ADVERTISING THIS ROLE ON BEHALF OF THE NORTH AND MID HOT HUBS/VIRTUAL WARDS. CGH PARTNERSHIP ARE NOT THE EMPLOYER.

We are currently recruiting for four COVID Virtual Ward Lead ANPs who will run the North and Mid Virtual Wards located in Basingstoke, Alton, Winchester and Andover. They will also be responsible for the oversight of the Hot Hubs linked to each of these virtual wards. They will work collaboratively with each other, particularly in the event that Hubs end up being co-located.

The post holder will oversee the virtual ward, accepting new admissions for the ward and using digital technology including AccuRx to ensure patients are contacted daily or at a clinically appropriate time. They will monitor virtual ward patients to identify any deterioration and act appropriately.

They will also oversee the Hot Hubs, in a non-patient facing role, and will be working closely with the GP Lead for the COVID Hot Hubs.

Main duties of the job

  • This role encompasses the skills of leadership and oversight of the Virtual Wards, using telephone triage to carry out assessment and monitoring within an agreed scope of practice. Highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.

  • This role is also to oversee and manage the Hot Hubs, which will provide a first point of contact for patients presenting with suspected COVID but also potentially other undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems. Although this role is non-patient facing, you will be expected to provide support to more junior colleagues, utilising advanced skills in history taking, physical examination, problem-solving and clinical decision-making, to establish a diagnosis and management plan.

Please see the job description for full details.

About us

The clear difference between the approach in phase 1 of COVID and now for Phase 2 is that we understand the risk of silent hypoxia in adults, and the increased mortality that this causes, and also we now have therapeutic options to offer patients. Therefore, there is merit in early swabs, early baseline obs and a lower threshold for CXR/Bloods in those moderately unwell patients. Patients will access this pathway through Primary Care, SCAS, 111, ED, OOH and be booked into a Hot Hub for assessment. They will then be swabbed and have baseline obs taken to triage them.

Operationally, the Hot Hubs will be overseen by a GP Clinical Lead, and also an Operations Manager. A proposed staffing model for the Hot Hubs on a day to day basis is as below. GPs will act in a consultancy and support role in the Hubs, reducing GP requirements, and using AHPs to provide the majority of the service.
