Job summary

Lydden Surgery has two vacancies for a qualified Dispensers to work for 16.5 hours each per week OR for one person to work 33.5 hours per week. The postholder will also be required to cover annual leave and sickness for team colleagues. The role involves all aspects of dispensary duties including delivery of medication to patients. Our dispensary is open 8 - 6:30 each day Monday to Friday

Main duties of the job

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To assist the Dispensary Manager in providing an efficient dispensary service to the patients and other members of the practice team.

Job Summary:

The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.

Assist in the preparation, dispensing and sale of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.

Dispensers need to be:

o Accurate and methodical

o Be able to follow standard operating procedures (SOP)

o Responsible

o Able to pay attention to detail

o Able to understand law and guidelines on medicines

o Able to read and carry out instruction

o To be interested in peoples health

o Be able to explain clearly to members of the public

They'll also need excellent communication, customer service, IT and manual skills, as well as flexibility in order to cover leave and sickness for colleagues.

About us

Lydden Surgery is an established practice which moved from River to our current purpose built premises in the picturesque village of Lydden in October 2011. We are a rural dispensing practice.

Our diverse practice team comprises:General Practitioners both Male and Female, Practice Nurses, two Heath Care Assistants, Dispensers, Medical Secretaries, Administrators and Receptionists.

As a team we offer the following services: Routine bookable appointments with the clinician of your choice, same day bookable appointments (for urgent problems unfortunately we cannot offer a choice of clinician for these), home visits for housebound patients who cannot attend the practice, a range of nursing clinics and services such as chronic disease management, blood tests, ECGs, dressings, blood pressure testing, warfarin clinics, hypertension clinics and NHS health checks. The practice has a patient participation group, dispensing services, online appointment booking and electronic transfer of prescriptions.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

o To label and dispense prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure safe supply to patients in an efficient and accurate manner.

o Process EPS (Electronic prescription service)

o Issuing prepared prescriptions

o Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements

o Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage

o Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions

o Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook

o Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.

o Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.

o Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post.

o Ordering and unpacking drugs and dressings.

o Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions under the supervision of a dispenser.

o Taking orders for repeats and dealing with queries support staff.

o Using the computer to keep records up to date.

o Checking with GPs or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication.

o Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions.

o Ordering drugs using the modem link to the wholesalers.

o Handling and dispensing of controlled drugs complying with relevant legal controls (and keeping register).

o Handling prescription money and operating/balancing the till.

o Assisting when required to meet targets in relation to medicines management and dispensing doctors scheme.

o Assisting in stock checks

o Providing cover for annual leave/sickness.

o Assist the dispensary team to efficient provide a medication delivery service to our patients
